Based on the games of the iconic shooter series DOOM they have already shot two full-length films, but they cannot be called successful. However, if the first film, which was released in 2005, despite the departure from the canons of the original source and other shortcomings, found its viewers who speak well of it many years later, then hardly anyone will want to remember the 2019 tape with the subtitle “Annihilation” …
Nevertheless, there are those who want to make a third attempt at a quality transfer of the cult shooter about the extermination of hordes of demons on the big screens. It’s about Bene Wheatley, who currently serves as the director of the sequel to “Meg: The Monster of the Depth” and was recently assigned to direct the sequel to “Tomb Raider: Lara Croft” starring Alicia Vikander.
And although Ben Wheatley has left work on the new Lara Croft film due to production delays due to the pandemic, he still remains interested in video game adaptations. In one of the podcasts, the director expressed a desire to transfer to screens DOOM or even Counter-Strike, while pointing out some of the difficulties in making films based on games.
“What you think is original in games is often taken by developers from films, so when the interactive element disappears, there is almost nothing left, you know? I still want to make a film on DOOM. I know that it was already shot on it, but still Or to film Counter-Strike is what I would undertake, “said Ben Wheatley.
