SEGA hints at the possibility of a Dreamcast Mini

Line of miniature retro consoles SEGA, which the company began last year with the release of the Mega Drive Mini, in the near future may be replenished with a similar reissue of the iconic DreamcastThis was openly hinted at by SEGA’s producer in an interview with Famitsu Yosuke Okunari

Concerning the recently released Game gear microwhich was released exclusively for Japan, Okunari suggested that the next mini-console should have stronger potential for global launch

“For the next Mini, we’re looking at options that everyone has been waiting for. But that certainly doesn’t mean we can implement each one. There is also a category of less popular devices.”

“Game Gear Micro is only sold domestically. When it comes to the next project, I think it will be much bigger as we are targeting the global market this time around.”

Okunari further noted that the release of the new mini-console will probably take longer than it took for the Game Gear Micro

“As such, we won’t be able to release it within a year or two after the Mega Drive Mini. It won’t be that fast.”

“I think the concept will be close to the Mega Drive Mini. If you name it, it could be the SG-1000 Mini or Dreamcast Mini …”

The original Dreamcast debuted in 1998. The console lasted for three years and was discontinued in 2001. After that, SEGA left the game console market.
