Review of The Elder Scrolls: Blades

The main problem is that the main element of the game – cleaning the dungeons – is boring to stupid. There are several options for biomes (Ayleid ruins, forest, castle catacombs, caves, wooden town), which consist of pre-made modules. And the number of these modules is limited, which is why zones become boring in the first 20 minutes. Sometimes it gets ridiculous when the same segment is repeated in a row, and after the battle it is sometimes difficult to understand where to go.

The worst thing is the Abyss, where the same staircase is re-established on an ongoing basis to go to the floor below.

The situation is aggravated by the local gameplay loop. The fact is that we did not accidentally mention the Elder Scrolls Travels series at the beginning. The game looks like a hello from the 90s, offering us a semblance Might and magic, TES: Arena etc. This can be seen even in the design of locations, most of which are made as if the creators only at the end of the production realized that modern technology allows you to make floors at the levels.

Fights are strictly one on one, although small creatures can stray into a pack of three pieces (rats, wolves, wandering lights) and so on. At the same time, the combat system is maximally simplified: you can apply light and powerful punches to the left and right, block the enemy’s attack, and also use three spells (spend mana) and three skills (spend stamina). Having guessed the moment with the block, you can stun the enemy. In addition, we are allowed to choose the position of blocks and strokes (upper, middle, lower).

However, all this does not matter, since the game has no balance. The tactics of success are quite simple: take the ax and enchant it to inflict damage on the enemy, if it blocks. All. Swords, shields, and so on can be forgotten. Moreover, the game has a lot of garbage weapons. There are no bows in mobile TES at all (as well as stealth), but for some reason they came up with some small hatchets.

The skills are also simple: you need to pump those that allow you to regenerate health and reduce damage from the elements.

As for the armor, Bethesda left the division into light and heavy armor, but only in the end you will still pump the heaviest with a bold defense indicator. The main thing – do not forget to repair equipment after each fight.

The developers are trying to cover up the broken balance due to inadequate progression. Here microtransactions come into play: in one shop you can create or improve only one item at a time. If you are improving the store, then you can’t buy anything in it either. And as you pump, the time for production / construction / improvement will gradually increase from 10 seconds to 10 hours or more.

There is a solution: spend precious stones on acceleration. If there is no problem with the receipt of gold, then precious stones come in a thin stream. Valuable currency can be increased by spending hard-earned rubles.

The assortment in the shops is limited, as is the amount of gold the merchant has. It is updated approximately twice a day, and this is completely insufficient. Since no chests are provided for storage, sometimes you have to disassemble extra items into components. It should also encourage you to spend money on in-game purchases for real money.

Nobody has also canceled lootboxes. Yes, they can be found at the levels, but those in the store open access to much more valuable rewards. Monetization does not reach the level of EA’s greed, however, without pumping your pumping will be delayed, since the equipment that is suitable for the level falls out extremely rarely, so you have to craft it.

The situation is aggravated by a complete randomness during enchantment: one main and two additional effects can be applied to an item, but the chances that you will get all three are very low.
