Library Nintendo switch replenished with a curious port of an independent project that came out on PC a few years ago, – Deep Sky Derelicts: Definitive Edition (also available on Ps4 and Xbox one) Game from a small Finnish studio Snowhound games is a tactical strategy with elements of bagel and RPG in a setting of gloomy science fiction.
The developers clearly did not make much bet on the plot, since when you start the main campaign you will not be told anything about the world or the background of the game. At the beginning, the player forms a squad of three mercenaries, each of which has a special class and set of skills. The editor allows you to combine almost any options, including the appearance of the hero, so you can make yourself at least three ingenious female technicians or recruit only boogeymen with sledgehammers as a team, but it is better, of course, to seek balance by selecting characters of various skills.
The main task of your trinity of restless thugs will be to search for a mythical artifact called the “Ark”, in exchange for citizenship, which gives privileges of the highest class of society and the opportunity to live quietly to old age.
To find the “Ark”, your brave team will have to scour the so-called “Relics” – ancient, abandoned ships, drifting through the vast expanses of space. Preparation for a research trip takes place at a hub station, where you can recruit yourself side contracts in a nearby brothel, patch up wounds in a hospital, buy and sell trash from a merchant, and so on.
Visually, your movements in space are presented in the form of pre-drawn static pictures in the style of a comic strip.
The game looks pretty nice, a bit reminiscent of Darkest dungeon. From the point of view of design, we will not see anything unusual: the characters, costumes, equipment, enemies and the environment are as if made according to some average template for a fantastic genre.
To match the very ordinary exterior design, a soundtrack is also made. Local compositions in the style of space ambient are not annoying, but the idea that we have already heard all this somewhere is constantly haunting.
IN Deep sky derelicts there is no clear movement of the plot, and each time with the start of a new game, the script will be randomly generated. On the one hand, this is a big plus for replayability, on the other hand, you understand that in this situation you should not count on a solid and thoughtful story.
