Director of the upcoming film reboot Resident evil Johannes Roberts as part of the online event SXSW gave an interview to IGN, during which he shared many new details of the upcoming film.
- The official name of the painting is Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City);
- The restart will be more horror-oriented than Milla Jovovich tapes, and has nothing to do with them. Although Roberts liked the Paul W.C. look. Anderson to the Resident Evil universe, his tape goes in a completely different direction and, he hopes, will be the beginning of a new series of films;
- The director paid a lot of attention to the atmosphere and wanted to make the tape as “damn scary” as the original games. He also noted that he was inspired by John Carpenter’s films “The Fog” and “Attack on the 13th Precinct”;
- The film will bring together the first two games and their key characters, including Chris and Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine and Leon Kennedy. All events unfold over one night and cover the streets of the city, Spencer’s mansion from Resident Evil and the Raccoon City police department from Resident Evil 2. The last two locations, according to the director, will be very different in tone: one of them is more like a movie with the siege of the police station, and the story in the mansion will be “how fucking creepy”;
- Roberts and his team worked closely with Capcom. The mansion and the police station were almost one-on-one modeled from the games. In addition, the film will have both story and stylistic references, such as fixed camera angles.
