Financial report Remedy entertainment for 2019 revealed updated information on the current developments of the studio. Currently, the Finnish team is engaged in four projects in the stage of active development..
One of them is an unannounced game, “successfully moving forward” in pre-production with a team of 20 people. Moreover, Remedy continues to engage in its live-service multi-player title, codenamed Vanguard, in the development of which are now involved about 15 people. The studio reiterated that the goal of Vanguard is to combine the unique capabilities of the team with the multi-user aspect for a stable long-term profit. Other current developments of the Finnish team are two paid extensions for Control and second project on Crossfire, not related to the storyline campaign for Crossfire X, the production of which has already been completed.
In a prepared statement, CEO Tero Virtala noted that together Control was the “main achievement” for Remedy, confirming the team’s potential and technological capabilities. He pointed to Control’s excellent marks and said that while relatively low marketing costs may have affected the start-up sales of the game, after the release the figures were set to “good level.”
Except Vanguard, where used Unreal engine 4, all other Remedy projects are based on their own Northlight engine. A team of 40 people, developers continue to develop their game engine, introducing new technologies, tools and systems that provide online functionality. Preparations are underway for the release of the next generation of Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Remedy’s revenue for 2019 was 31.6 million euros, up 57% more than in 2018. Mostly this was facilitated by Control, but Alan Wake, as noted, also contributed. Remedy now has a total staff 248 people.
