Working under the wing Microsoft famous studio Rare in recent years, it was marked by the release of colorful pirate adventure Sea of thieves and the announcement of a new adventure game called Everwild.
For a long time the studio was associated with classics, which it managed to create in the nineties, working with Nintendo. Among these projects Banjo-kazooie, Battletoads, Conker’s Bad Fur Day and Perfect dark. However, today Rare does not intend to return to the old franchises. Instead, she wants to focus on developing new ones.
“The creation of something new was laid down and has always been in Rare DNA,” a team representative told GamesIndustry.biz Simon Proger.
According to a Rare employee, the studio’s fan community has changed significantly in recent years. People fell in love Sea of thieves and almost stopped asking about the sequel to Perfect Dark or Banjo-Kazooie. The developer also notes that the audience was glad to announce the adventure game Everwild, after which there were no messages in the spirit of “And where is the new Banjo-Kazooie?”
Classic Rare, says today’s studio, will be able to continue to live in titles from third-party developers. For example, Nintendo added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Banjo and Kuzui, which the old fans enjoyed. A indie studio DLaLa Studios is preparing a restart of Battle Toads now. Simon Proger called this project an “interesting experiment.”
Rare became a full-fledged part of Microsoft in 2002 when Nintendo sold its shareholding for $ 375 million to an American corporation. The Kinect Sports game for the Xbox 360 became a real studio hit in the new location, but the sequel to the Xbox One did not succeed.
