Company Logitech famous for its computer accessories, including gaming solutions such as keyboards, mice and, of course, headsets. The other day to the editor Gamemag.ru a professional wireless headset was tested Logitech PRO X Wireless for PC. The price of the device on the Russian market is about 17300 rubles…
COMPLETE SET AND APPEARANCE
Unlike solutions from the G-series of devices from Logitech, this gaming headset comes in a black cardboard box with a picture of the device and a description of the main technological chips on the back, information about the configuration and characteristics on the side, and logos of various teams and eSports leagues on the other side. Inside the box you will find the headphones, which are packed in a nice-touch matte bag; USB receiver with proprietary LIGHTSPEED technology for connecting to a PC via a Type-A connector; spare ear pads made of fabric; detachable microphone that connects via a 3.5 mm jack to the headset; cable for charging USB Type-A to USB Type-C length 1.8 meters; fabric cover; visual instructions for connecting the device; instructions for removing the battery for safe recycling and an operating manual in 29 languages, including Russian.
The weight of the headphones themselves is 365 g, with a microphone – 375. The model is presented in only one color – black. It looks very strict and stylish – in the spirit of professional monitor solutions.
The headband is designed in steel and framed in black faux leather with memory foam filling. The PRO inscription flaunts on the top, and the edges are finished with overlock reinforcing stitching. The temples are made of thick enough aluminum and look very durable. From the upper part, on both sides, wires twisted into a spiral are also attached to the bowls.
The bowls are made mainly of non-marking soft-touch plastic with round metal inserts on the outer sides. They stand out in a gray-blue tint with a silver frame and the G logo. The insert has a pleasant effect when the light source is reflected in it.
The default ear cushions are crafted from faux leather with memory foam padding, while the optional ones are made from ventilated fabric and the same padding. Even after a few hours spent in both ear cushions, my ears were not tired, but a little sweaty in the artificial leather version.
Inside, under the ear cushions, there are 50 mm PRO-G drivers with a frequency range of 20 to 20,000 Hz and an impedance of 32 ohms.
All connectors and controls are presented on the bottom left bowl: 3.5 mm for connecting a microphone; LED for notification of turning on, charging and discharging the battery; USB Type-C connector for charging; on / off switch, volume wheel and microphone on / off button. There are no connectors or buttons on the right earpiece.
The flexible, detachable microphone connects to the left ear cup via the 3.5mm jack in one light, effortless motion. The microphone flexes freely in any direction up to about 200 degrees. This device uses a 6 mm electret-type unidirectional microphone with a frequency range of 100 – 10,000 Hz.
CONNECTION AND SOFT
To connect this device, simply insert the LIGHTSPEED receiver into the USB port of your computer, and the system will instantly install the drivers. You can use the headset without additional software.
We also tested the receiver’s connectivity to Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4 Pro, and Nintendo Switch. In the first case, we were in for a failure, since this headset without a system support plate from Microsoft, of course, was rejected by the console, and we could not try to somehow configure it. With the Switch, things turned out to be much better, since when we connected the dongle to the console dock, we immediately heard sounds from the launched Xenoblade Chronicles in the headphones, so you can use the product with a Nintendo console in stationary mode and, possibly, in a portable mode via a special USB. C adapter, which will have to be purchased somewhere else, but this is already quite a perversion.
Best of all, the Logitech PRO X Wireless showed itself with the PlayStation 4 Pro, as there it was immediately identified as a USB headset, as a result of which not only the sound from the speakers sounded, but also the microphone worked. So everything works great with the PlayStation 4. but it is strange that the manufacturer did not mention this anywhere. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth protocol is not provided here, so you won’t be able to use a headset with a smartphone.
However, like all Logitech gaming devices, these headphones reach their full potential only after installing the official Logitech G HUB app for fine tuning. If you connected the headphones to the PC and then launched the application, you will immediately see the image and the model of the headset in the visual list of devices. Below is the battery icon with visual filling of the charge level and the percentage of battery charge. If you connect the charger to the headphones, the battery icon will change its appearance and will indicate that the device is currently charging. In addition, at the top of the list, you can configure profiles to use Logitech peripherals for different scenarios, such as games of different genres.
By clicking on the picture with the headphones, you will immediately be taken to the first section of the “Headphones” settings, which is also divided into two tabs – “Acoustics” and “Surround sound”. In the first, you can adjust the volume of the headphones, microphone, and also transmit the sounds picked up by the microphone to the headphones. In addition, here you will find a simplified equalizer with adjustable only low and high frequencies, as well as the ability to turn on the advanced equalizer, where you can fine tune different levels of frequencies, as well as use preset settings, such as bass boost or mode for shooters. In addition to the built-in EQ presets, you can also save your own and share them with other users, as well as download their fine-tuning options.
In the Surround Sound tab, you can activate DTS Headphone: X 2.0 surround sound technology and set up virtual 7.1-channel sound. For surround sound source, you can choose three sound modes: entertainment, games and sports. For stereo sound, you can turn on the “DTS Super Stereo” mode and select three sound modes: front, wide and normal.
The second section is “Microphone”, where you can adjust the input signal level, as well as activate the Blue Voice technology, which is responsible for processing sound using a microphone and filters the voice at the moment of recording in real time. With this function, you can fine tune the sound of your voice and reduce the ambient noise.
The developers suggest using both preset settings and building everything yourself using various adjustable filters.
Well, as is the case with the equalizer, you can both share your presets and load the settings of other users.
SOUND AND AUTONOMY
According to information from the manufacturer, the wireless connection of this headset works within a radius of up to 15 meters, and this is perhaps a very real indicator if you have a large office, field, laboratory or a spacious hall in a country house. But even in the conditions of an apartment building through a reinforced concrete wall at a distance of about 6-7 meters, the quality of communication did not change, and this concerned both the connection of the receiver to the PC and to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
We tested this headset on several projects on PC (Forza Horizon 4 and Gears 5) and PlayStation 4 (Ghost of Tsushima), and this model has good panning. The sounds were correctly positioned according to the position of the source in three-dimensional space.
DTS Headphone: X 2.0’s virtual surround sound system also performed well with Gears 5 on PC, adding even more depth to the action. For this technology to work properly, you’ll also need to download DTS Sound Unbound from the Microsoft Store, which luckily is free for headset owners. Also, remember to enable this setting in the sound options in Windows preferences. If you simply enable this function, you will get volume, but the sound quality will be worse rather than better.
As for playing music on a PC, I had no complaints about the quality of the 50mm PRO-G drivers. The sound during listening is expressed in very neutral tones, due to which the details of the music scene are clearly distinguishable. As we already said, in the proprietary software you can adjust the sound with the built-in equalizer and save the desired profiles for yourself. Low, medium and high sound without any distortion, and the volume was quite enough even for the author of these lines, who likes to turn it up louder.
With the autonomy of the Logitech PRO X Wireless, everything is very good, since when used during the working day, the headset was discharged by about 10-15 percent at a volume level of 50 to 100%, so it will last a week from one charge.
TOTAL
The Logitech PRO X Wireless is a very high quality premium device that only shows its full potential on a PC. It was because of this that they decided not to mention the support of the headset by the Sony console. For 17 thousand, you get headphones made of high-quality materials, with good sound performance, loud drivers, stable and fast wireless connection, an excellent microphone, and a fine tuning tool in the form of official software. A fair deal despite the lack of Bluetooth.
