PS5 Testers May Already Expand Console Memory – New Firmware Details

Beta testers have the ability to expand the internal memory of the PlayStation 5. On the support site Sony published specifications of compatible devices and instructions for their installation, as well as answers to frequently asked questions.

You can expand the internal memory of the console using the M.2 slot, but it is disabled in the current firmware version for regular users. An external storage device can be connected to the console, but it can only be used to run PS4 games.

Currently, beta firmware is only available in certain regions – their number should increase within a week. Among other things, the latest PS5 update adds support for 3D audio for speakers (now only for headphones), improves the interface and expands the possibilities for customization.

The Game Center menu will now become even more flexible in settings, it will be possible to pin trophies to track their progress, and games with versions for PS4 and PS5 will now have separate icons for better understanding where which option is.

A little earlier Seagate announced that its FireCuda 530 PCIe Gen4 SSD has been tested and is compatible with the PlayStation 5. The company notes that the console’s SSD slot is very narrow, but even the FireCuda 530 with a heatsink still fits there.
The FireCuda 530 PCIe Gen4 speed reaches 7300 MB / s. SDD will launch in August in four flavors: 4TB ($ 950), 2TB ($ 490), 1TB ($ 240), and 500GB ($ 140). For a complete list of details, follow the link.
