presentations of major publishers were not affected by the lack of E3 – Igromania

Analytical Firm SuperData analyzed views of game presentations on Twitch from the beginning of June and concluded that large publishers were not affected by the lack of E3, which was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Presentation Sony, which showed games for the PlayStation 5 and the design of the console itself, watched an average of 1.51 million viewers per minute.

Last year, the company missed E3, but in this indicator, its recent presentation ahead of conferences Xbox and Nintendo at E3 2019, as well as broadcast The Game Awards 2019

Also, the average number of viewers per minute increased by 60% for the presentation Ubisoft – from 750 thousand people at E3 2019 to 1.02 million at Ubisoft Forward.

At the same time, SuperData notes that views have grown not only due to natural interest in new products, such as Far cry 6, but also thanks to the promise of a free PC distribution Watch dogs 2

However, this is not the case when it comes to small publishers and developers. For example, PC Gaming Show, which cannot boast of major announcements and demonstrations of new consoles. This year, the average number of viewers per minute was only 68 thousand, compared to 141 thousand in the past.

SuperData concluded that large publishers can safely skip E3 and other similar events, at least in terms of coverage, while smaller companies benefit from proximity to large exhibitions.

This is why, until the big events return, the most successful small developers will be those who can form partnerships with platform owners and leading publishers. SuperData gives an example Bugsnax from Young horses, which was shown at the Sony presentation.
