PlayStation VR 2 Should Surprise: Patent Images of Sony’s Valve Index Style VR Controller Appear

Second generation PlayStation VRwill, most likely, take into account the experience gained over the years of development of virtual reality on the PC. This is indicated by a recent patent application Sonyshowing the design of a new VR controller that may replace the outdated one PlayStation Move in the next PSVR version.

The patent was published in Japan this week and discovered by the portal LetsGoDigital… According to the schematic images attached to the document, the design of the device is similar to the controller Valve Index with an outer ring that wraps around the arm, which is likely to house the tracking sensors of six degrees of freedom… In addition, it looks very likely that finger tracking sensors will be built into the grip. Earlier this year, a video showing a prototype of a Sony device appeared online, confirming that the company is working on such technology.

You may also notice that the new controllers are equipped with analog sticks, which were not available on the PlayStation Move. Another design image confirms that the controllers not only have triggers, but it looks like the helmet itself will be able to track the position of the controllers.… This suggests that PSVR2may use a purl-tracking system similar to that used in Oculus Quest and Rift Swhereas the original PSVR required a camera facing the user.

Nevertheless, as has already been repeated many times, the registration of a patent does not mean that the real device will be exactly the same, but this time Sony will definitely not limit itself to a minor update of the current PlayStation VR.
