Studio Lillymo Gamesknown for games Twin breaker, Perils of baking, Habroxia and Habroxia 2, announced to cancel his unnamed project. A team of mostly two people worked on the project for the PlayStation Vita.
Let us remind you that the other day Sony said it was closing digital stores PlayStation 3, PSP and PS Vita. This will happen on July 2 and August 27, after which owners of outdated consoles will be able to download games that have already been purchased, including those from PS Plus, but will not be able to buy new ones.
Due to the fact that Lillymo Games does not have time to complete the game before August 27, the studio had to cancel the project. Thus, the studio’s last game released on Vita will remain Habroxia 2.
Meanwhile the Canadian studio Spooky Squid Gameswho is working on the Vita version Russian Subway Dogs, I had to speed up the work in order to have time to release the game. At the same time, in Europe, it most likely will not come out due to the fact that obtaining a PEGI rating will take additional time.
For small studios, it is already difficult to release games on consoles, and now the headache has increased. This port has been a project for the soul from the very beginning. The release on Vita hasn’t generated much revenue for a long time, but this is one of my favorite consoles, and I want to have time to release the game before everything closes.
I have already put a lot of effort into the project. In addition, this is my first time coding for consoles – I’ve always done art, not code. So there is no guarantee that I will meet the deadline, and this is a huge stress.
Miguel Sternberg, Spooky Squid Games
Sternberg also proposed support developers making bad business decisions to make games for dying platforms by purchasing any other studio projects. For example, They bleed pixels: it is available on Nintendo Switch and in Steam…
Meanwhile, the creator ScourgeBringer announcedthat the game will be released on PS Vita as a “limited release”. It will be available for purchase for only 128 days, from April 22 to August 27.
