As of 31 December 2023 Playstation 5 sold around the world in circulation 4,500,000 consoles… This is stated in the company’s quarterly financial report. Sonywhich appeared online today, February 3rd.
The next generation system marks the largest launch of any home console in history, but finished its first quarter with the same figures as Playstation 4 in 2013. Both could find more buyers if not for the scarcity.
The chart below shows sales of different consoles for the first quarter.:
PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii, DS, PS3, and Xbox 360 kicked off in November and the data is shown as of December 31st. Nintendo Switch was released on March 3, data aired on March 31, and PlayStation 2 debuted in March 2000 in Japan only.
- Sony sold 5.9 million PlayStation consoles in the last quarter… 4.5 million are on the PlayStation 5, and the rest, that is, 1.4 million, on the PlayStation 4.
- Demand for PlayStation 4 is rapidly slowing down… A year earlier, 6 million consoles were sold in the third quarter. The total circulation of the fourth PlayStation at the moment is 114.9 million…
- For October-December 2023, users bought in total 103.7 million copies of games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5… Of which 17.7% or 18.4 million copies are games from Sony itself… The company has not disclosed any new figures for The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima.
- 53% of the total number of games sold in the quarter – digital copies, the rest – discs… If you look at the statistics for all three quarters of the current financial year, then the “figure” has even more impressive indicators – 66%… The rapid growth of the PlayStation Store is primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic and quarantine measures in different countries.
- PlayStation Plus Subscribers reached 47.4 million people… A year earlier, that figure was 38.8 million.
- In terms of revenue, the current fiscal year, which ends March 31st, should be the most successful in PlayStation history.… The company is forecasting $ 25.53 billion in revenue, the largest platform in any generation, and an operating profit of $ 3.30 billion (Sony’s gaming division will hit the 3 billion mark for the first time).
- Directly in October-December, Sony generated $ 8.45 billion in revenue (a new record for the third quarter) and $ 767 million in operating profit (the second highest total for the holiday season for the PlayStation).
Analyst Daniel Ahmad notedthat Sony is now selling PlayStation 5 consoles in the red, but high sales of games and subscriptions, as well as an active audience for the PlayStation 4, are blocking it, allowing the company to demonstrate the best results in its history.
