PlayStation 5 reads discs regularly and loudly even when the game is not running

Playstation 5 It has been released in the US for over a week now and has just closed its first weekend after its release in Europe, so it is only natural that in the intervening time, users have identified several more new problems.

One of them seems to be related to the console drive, and judging by the messages from c Reddit and ResetEra, is quite common… Its essence boils down to the fact that the console from time to time and for no apparent reason begins to read the disc for about 20 seconds, and this happens even if the game is not running and is just in the drive. At first there was a suggestion that this is some kind of new method of checking the license, but further tests showed that the disc is read regardless of what you are doing on your PS5, such as watching Netflix at the moment or playing a digital version of another game

The frequency is different. For some, the console spins the disc every 15-20 minutes, while for others every 45-60 minutes or less, but in all cases this is accompanied by a fairly strong drive noise

You can also hear the Blu-ray drive on PS4, but this only happens when the console tries to access the disc data when installing, launching the game, or turning on the system. In all other cases, the drive does not make itself felt.

It is not yet known whether this is a bug or a feature of the system. At the moment, the only solution to the problem is to manually eject the disc every time the game ends.
