As for Sony and Nintendo, according to Phil Spencer, they will not be able to create the same developed network infrastructures and cloud technology platforms of the Azure level. It takes time and just huge amounts of money.
“We greatly respect Nintendo and Sony, but we see Google and Amazon as the main competitors for the future. Traditional gaming companies are not in a position to compete seriously. I suppose they could try to create their own Azure, but we have already invested in the cloud segment tens of billions of dollars, “Spencer said.
Microsoft does not want to limit itself to fighting for the attention of players with Nintendo and Sony, while Google and Amazon are focused on dragging billions of people around the world into gaming. Microsoft’s goal is to bite off a large slice of the pie from a new audience that cloud streaming should attract.
At the same time, Microsoft wants other gaming companies to cooperate with it, choosing Azure technologies, and not solutions from Google and Amazon, for their products. Last spring, Sony announced a deal with Microsoft on Azure.
Azure is an important part of Microsoft’s global business. The corporation offers its technology to third parties and makes money on it.
Microsoft’s gaming cloud service, xCloud, will also work using Azure technology.
