Pets and villains appeared in Dwarf Fortress – review

Studio Bay 12 games released the next update to its simulator Dwarf fortress. Patch 0.47.01 the developers themselves described as “adding guilds and temples, as well as parties for adventurers and pets, stealing artifacts and extensive historical villainy with many magical innovations, mostly evil“.

In fortress mode, players will now receive requests from guilds and religions to allocate territory. If you agree to build a temple or guild hall, you will be able to gain knowledge and inspirational sermons for weary dwarves.

Thieves can also be found in the fortress. It is worth getting the artifact they need, as they try to steal it. If there is a designated sheriff, he can conduct an investigation by interrogating witnesses. And players will have access to the counterintelligence screen, where they can see information about impending conspiracies. Although so far most of them will not be able to directly influence the fortress.

The inhabitants of the fortress can now have lovers and children out of wedlock, as well as get divorced. They can also master the craft of a necromancer or summoner and inadvertently flood the fort with nightmarish creatures.

In adventure mode, the hero editor is enriched with new features. Now they give a choice to the origin and religion of the dwarf, the quality of his equipment and even civilization. The hero is allowed to appoint a mount and a pet. Mounted animals accelerate movement and transport items. And pets can be petted and give them a name.

You can find out all the details about the new patch on the official website. So far, Dwarf Fortress is available for free, but developers are already preparing an improved paid version for Steam.
