Paying audience of online cinemas in Russia has grown to 8.5 million people

According to TMT-Consulting, the number of viewers of streaming services by the end of 2023 increased by 17% to 63 million people. And the paying audience increased by 52%, reaching 8.5 million users. At the same time, the introduction of subscriptions to various platforms among Russian viewers increased by 15%.

The new report does not take into account data from various video portals, app stores and certain services (Netflix), and therefore comes to somewhat different conclusions than TelecomDaily.

The Russian market of online cinemas by the beginning of the new year grew by 66% and amounted to 27.8 billion rubles. The bulk of the earnings – 82% – came from the paid model, while advertising brought in only 18% of the amount. Subscription basically became the main business model, bringing in 87% more than a year earlier.

The market leader, according to this report, is the online cinema ivi – its share was 32%, followed by Okko (20%), Megogo (9%) and “KinoPoisk HD” (8%).

The latter had a very high growth in revenue compared to 2019 – 152%. But this indicator managed to get around Start – Its revenue growth was 172%, and the number of subscribers doubled. True, Start still remained only in sixth place in the top online cinemas (share of 6%), following “Amediatekoy” (7%).
