“Optimized for the Xbox Series X” – what do these words mean? Explains Microsoft

Today it became known that on the boxes with games for the next generation console from Microsoft will appear icon “Optimized for Xbox Series X“. The Xbox team plans to flag them all projects that take advantage of the new hardware.

What are the benefits? Head of Xbox Global Portfolio Damon Baker claims that developers can use them however they want.

“Higher resolutions, crazy frame rates, ray tracing and, of course, faster game loading speeds,” Baker tells The Verge.

The company explained that the number of frames in new projects can reach 120, although Microsoft itself considers the standard 60fps.

60 fps will be the standard output frequency, but the architecture allows us to support up to 120 fps.

Many third-party studios volunteered to support the initiative.

Currently, the list of projects optimized for the Xbox Series X has at least 13 games. All of them were shown during the May Inside Xbox show:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (Ubisoft)
  • Bright Memory Infinite (Playism)
  • Call of the Sea (Raw Fury)
  • Chorus (Deep Silver)
  • DiRT 5 (Codemasters)
  • Madden NFL 21 (Electronic Arts)
  • Scarlet Nexus (Bandai Namco Entertainment)
  • Scorn (ebb)
  • Second Extinction (Systemic Reaction)
  • The Ascent (Neon Giant / Curve Digital)
