Official: PlayStation 5 Offers 667GB Of Usable SSD Space

Now we can say for sure that the usable volume of the internal disk Playstation 5 is 667.2 GB after deleting the preset Astro’s Playroom… This information was confirmed by journalists who have a console for the test.

The manufacturer claims the volume of the solid state drive is 825 GB. Of these, 158 GB are reserved for the operating system and 10.98 GB is occupied by the aforementioned Astro’s Playroom.

By comparison, the Xbox Series X offers 802 GB usable space from a 1TB drive and Xbox Series S 364 GB with a total size of 512GB onboard solid state drive.

To save space on SSD, users Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X / S will be able to install backward compatible titles on external USB drives, however, the Sony box does not support transferring PS5 games from internal storage to external storage for their temporary storage, as Microsoft consoles can. Another limitation of PlayStation 5 has to do with save files – copying saves the old fashioned way to a USB flash drive is possible only in the case of games for PS4, while in projects from PS5, the transfer of saves is provided only to the cloud storage PlayStation Plus

In addition, it was confirmed yesterday that the PS5 will not support internal SSD expansion in the early days after the console’s release. On Xbox Series, this feature will be available from day one.
