Japanese company SoftBank exploring the possibility of selling a British chip developer ARM… According to Bloomberg, the main contender is NVIDIA, which is conducting “advanced negotiations” on the topic. The deal is valued at $ 32 billion.
At the same time, sources claim that it is the “green” company that is most interested in buying, and the transaction itself may take place in the next few weeks. If it does, it will become one of the largest in the microelectronics business.
Note that SoftBank bought ARM in 2016 for $ 31 billion, and since then, the chip maker has only become more expensive. This was facilitated by the beginning of the Mac transition to chipsets Apple Silicon, the emergence of Windows for ARM chips and the development of the mobile segment.
At the same time, even NVIDIA uses chips on the ARM architecture – these are Tegra solutions for Nintendo Switch portable consoles and Shield branded consoles.
If the deal goes through, it will “shake up” the market, given that the greens are competing with other companies that also rely on ARM development.
