Company Valve quietly changed the specs of her portable console Steam Deck. This was noticed by users on social networks.
The original announcement stated that the system will receive 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. It worked in dual-channel mode, which made it possible to provide a bandwidth of 44 GB / s.
However, an updated press release states that the Steam Deck will receive four-channel LPDDR5 RAM. This will double the bandwidth – up to 88 GB / s.
The decision forces Valve to take a fresh look at the handheld console. The bandwidth of similar compact PCs (Microsoft Surface and so on) is about 68GB / s. Nintendo Switch has even less – 25.6 GB / s.
The change will also improve the performance of the architecture. RDNA 2, so now the Steam Deck should supposedly work at the level Playstation 4… However, it all depends on optimization.
