“Nothing complicated”: Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima answered one of the most popular questions in detail

In the gaming community, it is often customary to jokingly call a game designer Hideo Kojimu a kind of prophet, capable of predicting the future, albeit with the addition of a healthy dose of fiction. Nevertheless, the developer himself has repeatedly stated that he does not adhere to such a position. He creates, starting from the events that surround him at the time of working on a new project. Recently, the head of the marketing department of Kojima Productions Aki Saito commented on this topic in an interview with GameMAG.ru

Kojima himself decided to speak in more detail on this issue on his Instagram.

“It seems to me that tomorrow or the day after tomorrow is very easy to predict, they will certainly become a continuation of our today. But when it comes to 5, 10 years, the situation becomes noticeably more complicated. Personally, I just always try to follow the most current news in the fields of science, social movements and society as a whole, everyday life. There I look for “signs” that can tell us what to expect in the future. This is especially true of technology: medicine, space exploration, robotics, artificial intelligence. A significant part of research in such areas for the general public is almost unknown, but the progress that they achieve is significantly ahead of ours with you.Even if some idea has not yet found practical implementation, at the level of concepts everything confidently steps forward.

Not so long ago I was called to a research center, and I felt like I was in some kind of sci-fi world. Many “seeds” (or “signs”) that indicate the future can be easily found all over the world, just look carefully for them. And I, in turn, use them as a foundation, give them the necessary charge, for this you just need a little imagination.

If some new invention appears in the world, how will it affect our lives?

It’s so easy to ask a question, make a prediction and write your story.

The writer Michael Crichton read notes about the fallen satellites, and then he wrote The Andromeda Strain. Or take Sakyo Komatsu, who carefully studied the analysis of tectonic activity on Earth, came to his own calculations, and later wrote The Death of the Dragon. Signs are everywhere, in movements and trends, in technology, research, politics. Gene therapy, private military companies, manned weapons, exoskeletons, 3D printers, the fight against cell aging, artificial intelligence, the fragmentation of our world.

Whenever such things enter our life, it changes noticeably. For example, 5G technology can already be found in some parts of the world. One day the time will come to move to 6G, 7G, some completely new solution. And when that happens, what will happen next? What impact will this have on education, companies, our homes, military action? What difficulties do we face? The abbreviation “SF” means not only science fiction, but speculative fiction too.

This is how I create my worlds… Nothing complicated. Therefore, in my case, there are no predictions, only fantasies based on science and assumptions. It just so happened that sometimes I found myself close enough to reality. Just fantasizing about the future of the entertainment industry. I’m not a prophet, “wrote Hideo Kojima in his personal blog.

The latest project to date Hideo Kojima is an atmospheric action adventure Death stranding… The developer is already actively working on his next game.
