Publisher Deep silver and studio 4A Games announced the release of an update for the shooter Metro exodus, which adds native support for the next generation consoles Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5. In particular, we are talking about the introduction of ray tracing technology, which previously became available to PC players.
New features in console hardware have allowed developers to raise the bar. In particular, they were pleasantly surprised by the power of the processors in systems from Sony and Microsoft…
On Xbox Series X and PS5, the game can run at 4K / 60fps (due to dynamic resolution and upscaling), and on Xbox Series S, the bar has been lowered to 1080p / 60fps. The field of view (FOV) parameter has also been improved, 3D sound has been added and support for the DualSense gamepad has been integrated. Thanks to the increased performance, Artyom’s control from the gamepad should feel smoother.
A team of three to five people worked for about four years to adapt the ray tracing technology inside 4A Games. The training took a significant part of the time, but the work done will form the basis for future studio projects. As a result, the developers were able to significantly facilitate the work with lighting. If earlier you had to arrange a lot of fake light sources, now working with lighting has been greatly simplified, and the environment correctly reacts to changes in the situation.
On next-gen consoles, the combination of higher resolution textures and ray-tracing technology can dramatically change the visual appearance, although this is far from always beneficial to her, due to a number of artistic decisions of the original. On Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5, RT Shadows and RT Lighting are available to players, but not RT Reflections found on PC.
Of the unpleasant, it is worth noting the impossibility of transferring trophies and saves from PS4 to PS5. On Xbox Series X | S, you can continue playing the game, but only from the last chapter (intermediate saves will disappear). Instead, players were given access to a chapter selection – after loading, the character will receive a standard set of equipment.
Owners of Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 will be able to purchase the full edition of Metro Exodus, which has grown in size to include all add-ons and 4K textures.
