Not Exclusive: Featured in Unreal Engine 5 PS5 Demo Available on Xbox Series X

Impressive with its beauty techno demo engine Unreal engine 5 launched on devkite Playstation 5, however, the technologies demonstrated in it will not be exclusive to the Japanese console.

According to the CEO Epic Games Tim Sweeney, the demo shown the other day was the culmination of many years of discussions between Sony and the Unreal team about the future of graphics and storage architectures. However, he explained that technology Nanite and Lumenwhich served as the basis for the demonstration, bwill be fully supported on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and will look great on both consoles and high-end PC.

Nanite’s virtualized micropolygon geometry allows artists to create as many geometric details as the human eye can see. The system provides the import of cinematic-quality sources, consisting of hundreds of millions or billions of polygons, directly into the Unreal Engine with real-time scaling without loss of quality.

Lumen, in turn, is a fully dynamic global lighting solution that instantly responds to scene and light changes. The system creates diffuse lighting with infinite reflections and indirect specular reflections in huge detailed spaces on a scale from a few millimeters to kilometers. Thanks to this, artists and designers will be able to create more dynamic scenes, for example, changing the angle of the sun to set the desired time of day, turning on the flashlight or punching a hole in the ceiling, and indirect lighting will adapt accordingly.

Earlier this week, Sweeney spoke about the architecture of the PlayStation 5 storage, mentioning that it is not only the best in its class on consoles, but also among all platforms in general, far ahead of even today’s high-performance PCs.
