No Ray Tracing & Slower Downloads: Testing The Medium on PlayStation 5

Horror The medium from the Polish studio Bloober Team tomorrow goes to Playstation 5… Ahead of the release, ElAnalistaDeBits tested a port of the game for the Sony console and recorded a video.

The results are as follows:

  • Ray tracing is not in any form, as it is on the Xbox Series S, although the Xbox Series X version used ray tracing in part in shading and reflections;
  • The lighting and ambient occlusion on the PS5 has been slightly tweaked, which gives good results in some places and not so much in some places. For example, at the location in the apartment from the beginning of the game, the direction of the light was changed, which completely changed the lighting in the rooms;

  • By sacrificing beams, the developers were able to increase the resolution on the PS5. The game runs in dynamic 4K just like it does on the Xbox Series X, but the minimum threshold isn’t as low. Where resolution drops below 1080p on Series X, it stays above 1260p on PS5;
  • The frame rate is locked at 30 FPS and runs smoothly, but frame rates, in particular in cinematics, are less stable than on the Xbox Series;
  • Shadows on PS5 are also different. In some areas, they appear sharper than on other platforms (especially for open spaces);
  • Anisotropic filtering is slightly better on PS5 compared to Series X. Texture quality is the same in all versions;
  • The download speed on the PS5 version is twice slower than on the Xbox Series, but textures load faster on launch.
