No performance claims – DOOM Eternal tested on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro

Even before release Doom eternal id Software Studio promised players 60 frames even on basic consoles. The VG Tech channel decided to figure out how the words of the developers are close to the truth, having tested the shooter on the example of versions for Playstation 4 and Playstation 4 pro.

As a result of the technical analysis, it turned out that a high frame rate on both consoles is achieved due to dynamic resolution. In the case of the base system, the image is scaled from 1358×764 before 1920×1080 pixels, while on a more powerful version of the PlayStation 4, resolution varies from 1813×1020 before 2560×1440 pixels. At the same time, the entire interface on the PS4 Pro is rendered in native 4K, and when displaying pictures on ordinary TVs with forced disabling of supersampling, the resolution decreases to 1080p.

In terms of speed, DOOM Eternal is best expected on the PlayStation 4 Pro, where the frame rate counter almost always stays close to 60 FPS, dropping from time to time 5-10 frames. However, the owners of the base PlayStation 4 will also not be disappointed. The average frame rate here is 57.88 FPSand the minimum is 37 FPS, however, so much the frame rate dropped in only one complex scene at 4:30 and does not reflect the overall performance of the game. The build under number 1.02 was considered.

The project is already available on Xbox one, Playstation 4, PC and cloud platform Google stadia. Version for Nintendo switch will be released later.
