In May, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa allegedly stated that the company would not necessarily continue to release many new projects for the mobile market.
Nintendo tested various types of monetization – from a one-time purchase Super mario run to subscription model Mario kart tourHowever, the income of both titles did not live up to expectations.
At the same time, employees of studios that are developing mobile games for Nintendo, in a conversation with Bloomberg, said that the Japanese company asked its partners not to force players to spend a lot of money, since such types of monetization can harm its brands.
Analysts also note that Nintendo’s huge success in the console market has reduced the need to invest in the mobile market.
It is expected that so far the company will focus on already released mobile games, and will release a new game for smartphones only at the end of the current fiscal year.
Finally, Nintendo is unhappy with mobile platforms and because of their limitations. The company believes that its franchises show their best side in combination with Nintendo controllers, and not with the touchscreen interface of a smartphone.
