Nintendo has stopped selling codes for downloading their own games in European stores

Representatives Nintendo confirmed publication Nintendo lifethat “after a thorough study of the developing European market in recent years,” the company decided to stop selling codes for downloading its own games in stores from July 1, 2023.

At the same time, customers can still purchase in-store subscriptions to Nintendo Switch Onlineadditional content (e.g. Pokemon sword and shield expansion expansion), as well as codes for downloading games from other publishers.

However, the British online store ShopTo previously reportedthat Nintendo’s decision affected not only European stores, but also the entire EMEA region, which unites Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The exact reason for this decision by the company is still unknown, but the media say that in stores, codes for downloading Nintendo games, as a rule, could be bought cheaper than in Nintendo eShop.
