New smartphone with fashionable design, bright screen and good battery life: OPPO Reno4 Lite review

To the editorial board of the portal GameMAG.ru the test came with a fresh mid-price smartphone from the company OPPOOPPO Reno4 Lite… The device was announced only today, but we had time to study it beforehand.

DELIVERY AND PACKAGING

We have at our disposal a test sample of the device. The smartphone comes in a wide rectangular white cardboard box with OPPO logos on three sides. Also on the box is a dark aquamarine-colored cardboard “sock” with a very pleasant to the touch texture. On the front side of the “sock” there is an embossed model name, company logo and information on the amount of RAM and built-in memory. Inside is not only the smartphone itself, but also an 18 W power adapter, a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, wired headphones with a 3.5 mm plug, a silicone case, a clip for removing the SIM tray and a manual. The screen is immediately covered with a protective film.

EXTERNAL DATA AND CONNECTORS

In Russia, the smartphone will be presented in two colors – blue and black. We had a black sample on our test. Although the back plastic cover of the device is rather not black, but ¾ painted in dark gray metallic, and the rest is a little lighter and with the same texture. In rainy weather, the color of the back cover begins to shimmer with bluish tints. It looks very impressive. The front panel of OPPO Reno4 Lite is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. Thanks to the oleophobic coating, fingerprints are hardly noticeable on the device. The frame is made of nice chrome-plated plastic.

The size of the device is 160.1×73.7×7.4 mm. Weight – 164 g. The screen is an AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.43 inches and a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. The refresh rate is 60 Hz. The pixel density is 409 ppi. The smartphone screen with a 20: 9 ratio covers approximately 84.5% of the front of the device. A fairly wide chin is located below.

A camera with a dual lens module is embedded in the display, but we’ll talk about that a little later. Above the screen is an earpiece, and under the screen is a light sensor and a fingerprint scanner.

On the back of the smartphone is a block of four camera modules, protruding like the iPhone 11 Pro, and an LED flash, as well as the OPPO logo.

Due to the protruding camera block, the OPPO Reno4 Lite is slightly raised and uneven. The included silicone case does not help much, since the rear cutout is made in height with the camera modules.

The power button is located on the right side, and separate volume buttons are located on the left edge. There is also a SIM card slot with a large tray in which you can install two nano-SIM and micro SD with support for up to 256 GB at the same time. At the top you will find only the auxiliary microphone hole. The lower edge of the smartphone is full of various slots and connectors. These included a multimedia speaker hole, a main microphone, a USB Type-C connector for charging and data transfer, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

USE AND CONVENIENCE

The smartphone is light enough and lies very pleasantly in the hand thanks to the rounded edges and pleasant-to-touch plastic, both on the edges and on the back of the device. At first glance, it seems that it is made of aluminum, for which my respect to the designers of this device. The thumb of the Central European hand reaches about 75% of the screen.

The display is bright enough, which is, however, expected for an AMOLED solution. Brightness – 430 nits. The matrix supports the output of HDR content. PWM is also present, but almost completely disappears after enabling a special function in the settings. Movies, TV shows and anime on the road (everything we love) look very cheerful on it. The embedded camera does not interfere with the consumption of multimedia content. The same can be said for reading manga and surfing the internet. It is also worth noting that I have a large hand, but typing with two thumbs on the OPPO Reno4 Lite screen was very convenient – no discomfort.

The fingerprint scanner under the screen works quite quickly, as well as face recognition. There is also the ability to activate the always-on screen features, which displays the clock and date, as well as battery power and application icons with notifications. The watch style on the Always-On display can be selected from 18 options, including 12 digital and 6 analog dials. However, you cannot customize them in any way.

SOUND

The speaker located below is responsible for playing the sound of multimedia content. I did not have any complaints about it either while watching video content on Netflix and YouTube, or when listening to music via Spotify. The sound is loud and clear, and the speaker does not choke at high volume levels. But I would not recommend using the complete headphones, since they play a little dull, and I did not find anything that would sound at an acceptable level in them. However, this is a common thing for the included peripherals. It is also worth noting that the phone supports wireless headsets with the APTX HD codec, which should appeal to fans of pure audio without wires.

CAMERA

As we said above, the smartphone is equipped with a block of four camera modules on the back. The main camera is 48 megapixels (6000×8000) when taking photos and 8.3 megapixels (3840×2160) when recording video. Focal length – 4.71 mm, aperture – f / 1.7. The second module is an 8 megapixel wide-angle with an aperture of f / 2.2 and a coverage angle of 119 degrees. There are also two 2 megapixel depth sensors with f / 2.4 aperture.

The quality of taking photos from the main module is good both with excellent lighting and with a reduced amount of light. It should be noted that by default the module shoots with a resolution of 12 megapixels, so you need to turn on the 48 mode in the camera settings.

The camera also has night and portrait modes. If the first one is not good for anything, strongly overexposing and blurring the picture, then the second one quite accurately focuses on the object and blurs everything around.

The wide-angle module shoots quite tolerably in good lighting, but it does not cope with poor lighting and washes the picture a lot.

The main camera is capable of recording video in maximum 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. It has optical stabilization, which is called “Super stabilization” here and is not enabled by default. It does its job well and prevents problems when shooting with shaky hands or while moving, such as briskly walking on curb tiles or running. There is also the possibility of shooting a time-lapse in 1080p resolution at 120 FPS.

When switching to the front camera, a blue iridescent outline appears for a second around the embedded camera, which signals that the front camera will now be used and it’s time to get ready for cute selfies.

The front camera is equipped with two modules. The main module of 16 megapixels has a focal length of 3.48 mm and an aperture of f / 2.4. The second module of 2 megapixels is a depth sensor with an f / 2.4 aperture. Photo quality is quite good with both high and low noise levels. In addition, the front camera can record video with optical stabilization at a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30 frames per second.

BATTERY, IRON & COMMUNICATIONS

OPPO Reno4 Lite is equipped with Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and Wi-Fi 5 with support for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. Navigation systems: aGPS, GPS and GLONASS. This is the standard set of a modern phone.

The smartphone comes with a 4015 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery. It supports 30W VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge, which should charge it up to 100% in 53 minutes, but we were unable to test it, since it comes with only 18W fast charging. Thanks to it, you can charge your phone 50% in 43 minutes, up to 75% in 1 hour and 11 minutes, and completely in 2 hours and 9 minutes. Unfortunately, this device does not have wireless charging technology either. With everyday use of a smartphone (calls, instant messengers, watching several videos a day on YouTube and listening to music in a Bluetooth headset), the smartphone lasts for one and a half to two days.

The operating system Reno4 Lite is the 10th version of Android with the proprietary ColorOS version 7.2 from OPPO. The core of the system is an 8-core MediaTek Helio P95 processor (12nm, 6 cores ARM Cortex A55 with an operating frequency of 2 GHz, 2 cores ARM Cortex A75 with an operating frequency of 2.2 GHz), which works in conjunction with the PowerVR Rogue GM9446 graphics accelerator and 8 GB random access memory. The built-in memory in the device is 128 GB of UFS 2.1 standard, and in general it is necessary at least in 2023, but if this is not enough for you, then, as mentioned earlier, there is also a microSD slot – cards up to 256 gigabytes are supported. It is located in the same place as two nano-SIMs, but the important thing is that you do not have to sacrifice a second SIM card if you want to expand the smartphone’s memory.

SYNTHETIC TESTS AND GAMES

We were able to test this device in games such as PUBG Mobile, Gears Club, Asphalt 9 and World of Tanks Blitz. For several hours, we noticed only in Asphalt 9 the presence of drawdowns, especially noticeable when jumping on trampolines, as well as rare freezes in PUBG Mobile. The rest of the games ran smoothly and were comfortable to play.

In normal operation, the processor temperature did not exceed 34-37 degrees, and the battery kept around 29-33. With heavy games such as PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9, the processor temperature reached 50-55 degrees, and the battery warmed up to 37.

Based on basic tests AnTuTu and 3D Mark identified the phone as OPPO Reno4 Lite or CPH2125. In AnTuTu, the smartphone scores almost 198,866 points and takes 73rd place in the ranking of Android solutions.

RESULTS

OPPO Reno4 Lite is a fashionable design, a bright screen and a smartphone that fits perfectly in your hand for everyday life. If you are not a fan of graphically demanding mobile games and are looking for a device with a large display, good battery life and low weight for watching videos and social networks, then most likely you should at least take an interest in this model. Perhaps this is what you have been looking for for a long time.
