New PlayStation 5 firmware fixes compatibility issue with Samsung TVs

The update released yesterday 21.01-03.00.00 for Playstation 5 fixed the issue of compatibility with TVs Samsung… Its essence was that the console did not support playback of content in 4K with speed 120 fps with HDR enabled on Samsung’s premium 2023 TVs (Q80T, Q90T, Q900R, etc.) due to a bug related to HDMI 2.1 and system firmware.

Back in January, Samsung confirmed that it was aware of the problem and was working with Sony to resolve it. Initially, the fix was planned to be included in the March update, but did not have time.

In addition to the fixed issue with support for 120Hz on Samsung TVs, the latest update added the function of transferring games from PS5 to external USB drives for temporary storage, preloading game updates, a new screen for viewing prize statistics, cross-gen Share Play with PlayStation 4 users, as well as support for monitors 1080p @ 120Hz and a new option to automatically switch video output to SDR for non-HDR games.

Two other notable innovations are the One-Touch Play and Power Off Link capabilities. The first turns on and immediately switches the TV to the desired HDMI when the PS5 starts up, and the second sends the console to rest mode when the TV is turned off.
