President and Creative Director of the studio Hangar 13 Hayden Blackman gave a great interview to the publication USgamerin which he shared new details of the remake of the first Mafia. The full interview can be read on the link, and below we highlighted the most important points.
- The idea came soon after completing work on the DLC for Mafia 3However, only about the last year and a half, a full-fledged team worked on the remake.
- The initial team included some developers of the original game, who used everything they learned while working on Mafia 3, including their own engine.
- The director of the cinematic videos was one of the authors of the original game. Sources of inspiration are Mafia itself, “Godfather” and The Godfather 2, as well as films of the 20s and 30s of the last century that set the tone and atmosphere.
- Tommy Angelo’s sweetheart – Sarah – will get more screen time. She is not a mafia, but she knows how it works.
- The roles of Paulie and Sam will also expand.
- The assignments were changed, including adding content to give more importance to the conflict between Salieri and Morello.
- The developers listened to criticism of the third part. New assignments will be less rehearsal.
- The authors tried to ensure that the city was the right size, that all important sights were located in the right places, and that the districts were different from each other. Players will always see something interesting, turning 60 degrees.
- Tommy will not be too tenacious, and cars will break down or even explode after too many collisions and accidents.
- The game will have the usual difficulty levels and the ability to customize the presence of the police and how they relate to violations, for those who want to enjoy the plot.
- The shooting was taken from Mafia 3. Players are waiting for shelter, but Tommy, unlike Clay, is not a soldier, which will be felt. Again, Tommy will be less tenacious, so every bullet matters.
- Two settings for driving mechanics. Simulation, as in the original, and a mode for less hardcore players.
- From the third part, they did NOT take mechanics when the police react more slowly if the crime occurred in a poor district or an area with a black population.
- The developers redesigned the lighting from Mafia 3, which will appear not only in the remake of the first part, but also in the next studio game, which she is currently working on.
