During the last stage of development, the team created a draft version of all elements of the game zone called “Dry Steppes”, including campaign content, elements of the open world, items, a PvP zone, dungeons, and a video that completes its storyline. Then the developers for two days tested the new version of the game.
The authors note that during the development of new graphic elements are temporarily presented in rude form, so that it would be easier and cheaper to get rid of them if they failed. Below you can find the initial draft, draft and in-game model of the classic version of the demon.
In Diablo IV will be implemented and new ways of presenting the plot. The conversations between the characters will change. Now the authors are experimenting with various camera angles, automatically selected by the algorithm and set manually.
For simple conversations with the NPC, the camera approaches the interlocutors (while the angle remains isometric), and for the characters, an animation library is used that matches the general theme of the conversation. For more complex conversations, the angle will be similar, but the characters will be given animation specially created manually.
In the most important moments of the plot, the authors intend to show videos processed in real time, where the player’s character can be seen with all his equipment.
In the open world, players are waiting for events, the ability to create items, the global PvP mode, side quests and camps. The camps captured by the opponents can be liberated, and then they will turn into friendly outposts with NPCs and gateways of wanderings. Each camp has its own story, which is presented with the help of visual elements.
Also during the game it will be possible to get transport, which allows you to quickly get to the right place in the open world. The developers note that vehicles and related items (such as a trophy for a saddle) will open up new opportunities for progress.
As for multiplayer, other players can be found in cities that will turn into platforms for communication after completing story missions, exploring the game world or where the event takes place (for example, to protect the city from a raid by cannibals or kill a demon boss). Only the player and his group can be in the dungeons.
In a future report, developers will talk about various innovations for classes and how they updated the talent tree system. During the year, the authors will also share new details about the system of objects and touch on the theme of the musical accompaniment of the game.
Finally, Blizzard noted that Diablo IV is not yet ready even for alpha testing. At the moment, the release of the game is scheduled for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
