Neil Drackmann’s worst day and lack of add-ons for Last of Us: Part II – review

Neil Drackmann first publicly talked about the moment when there was a massive leak of spoilers for The Last of Us: Part II, and many people, outside the context of events, invented a nonexistent story.

But before that, we’ll quickly tell you about the second news: the sequel will not have plot additions. The first part, we recall, had a small extension from which we learn how Ally was bitten and she lost her best friend.

And now for the worst day of Drackmann. Will be further spoilers in the second part.

The highlight of the leak was the scene of the assassination of Joel from the sequel to the prologue ending. Many players were dissatisfied with what they saw, in addition, attributing the killer of the hero Abby to transgender people – in reality this is not so.

People were so dissatisfied with the leaks that Drackmann even received deadly threats, not to mention the months-long harassment on social networks.

The author of the game partially understood the feelings of the fans, because they saw such a shocking scene, but for everything else, that is, the context of what happened, they will have to wait a few more months.

People can be understood. And we had to sit still a couple of months with a mood like “That’s not all, but now we can’t say anything.” People had to live with this frustration and anger. It was complicated. It was insanely hard.

As Drackmann recalls, it was one of the worst days of his life. He watched what was happening in real time, when the first videos appeared on YouTube and in the studio began to panic, trying to block the video – in the end, it took about an hour.

However, this did not help much: after a few hours in the social networks, insanity and a hate parade began, which resulted in terrible death threats and anti-Semitic statements – the author did not expect such an outcome.

I knew that the death of a beloved character will upset people. But I never thought that she would reach such a level of hatred. I can’t even find the words to describe it. Hopelessness?

Much worse for the team was the position of some players who, long before the release, decided everything for themselves – they hated the game. They did not want to understand or find out the context of events. However, Drackmann optimistically emphasizes that, in a sense, the scene still worked as it should.

The developers wanted to convey to the players Ellie’s feelings – anger, hatred and disgust.

At one point, a few days after the leak, we realized that the worst had already happened. The worst way to show these scenes, which we were so afraid of, has already happened. Despite our efforts to protect players from spoilers.

It’s about the fact that many trailers of The Last of Us: Part II used fake scenes, which are especially often used Marvel studios in an attempt to protect the audience from spoilers.

The sequel The Last of Us: Part II was released on June 19 and received extremely positive reviews from the press, which was impressed by the unusual structure of the narrative of the game – something like this is rarely seen in the entertainment industry.
After the release, the players started the holy war on Metacritic, trying to bring down the user rating of the project. It turns out with varying success – slowly but surely rises. Now, based on 85 thousand reviews, the new item has an average score of 4.6 points.
