“Money in Dota 2 has become really less” – Korb3n on the pros and cons of the new DPC format

Former manager Team empire Dmitry Korb3n Belov commented on the changes in the Dota Pro Circuit format, which will take effect in the 2023/2023 season. He noted that due to the redistribution of prize money, top teams will now focus only on majors and the International tournament. According to him, with the advent of the league system, large organizations can also think about opening youth teams. Belov wrote about this in a personal group on VKontakte.

“There are fewer prizes – and this is bad. The prizes for the 1st place in major have become significantly less, as a result, the value of International has increased. In general, there is really less money in DotA. For top orgs and teams, now there is exclusively int and majors to get on it. All the majors will play the top teams, as it is highly likely that 1000 points in the first 2 places (league + major) may not be enough. <…>

It makes sense for top CIS organizations to have youth teams that will play in the lower league, as you can declare replacements only from teams of the lower league, if you play in the higher league, and by the logic, it will be farm clubs, as in rfpl, I don’t see much point in having a second equivalent composition, there are a lot of costs, there is little profit. ”

Belov noted that reducing the number of tournaments will increase competition within the scene, which will make it difficult for some teams to work with sponsors.

Dmitry Korb3n Belov:

“The bulk of the sponsors is focused on the forum (read LAN tournaments). Forums instead of 10 – 3 pieces, it’s tough. If now conditional forces have the opportunity to go in a minor, then in the next season it will be unrealistic to make it difficult, too many resources are needed. <…>

It is not clear that with the ban on holding third-party competitions on league dates. There is almost no time for lans, or lans will be invites, i.e. without kwal, since there is definitely no time for kwal, doing kwal after the first season, and lan after the second – this is in conditions of reshafles, is not very adequate. Top tims will go on invites, the rest will say hello to Veny. Does the ban on online league and competition apply? If not, then who will comment on them, if the season is going on in parallel. ”

According to Belov, the new format and divisions with separate prize pools will help young teams that do not have the support of large organizations.

Dmitry Korb3n Belov:

“The system is cool for young people, you can play, develop without organization and tell your mother that you are already making a living. This is really cool. And spur the scene to growth. All the rest are more likely to suffer, there is less money in the bunker, despite the fact that they are simply redistributed. I think over the course of the season, if there are no third-party events or major online events, as well as results in the league (read trips to major), many orgs will think about the profitability of having a dot-squad structure, bootcamps are expensive. ”

Belov is sure that DPC points for league places and for places in majors will add up, and this will make it easier to get invites for teams from regions with a large number of slots.

Dmitry Korb3n Belov
Dmitry Korb3n Belov:

“Regarding DPC points for the seats. I am sure that DPC points for a place in the league and for a place in major will add up. We conclude from this, given that China, Asia, America, Europe have 4 or 3 slots, even if you take 3rd place in the CIS in all 3 seasons and don’t go to major, earning 600 PTS, then you won’t go 99% to int on invite. And you still can not change the composition, so as not to get a fine of 15% for a replacement.

And even with the current announced points system, there is a high probability that teams from different regions will have the same number of points at the end of the season, and what should I do? What the CIS will do in the new system, if we have a sole leader, which were the VP in the previous 3 seasons, is not clear at all. ”

Valve has announced the new format for the DPC 2023/2023 season on the morning of February 26th. Read more about this here. An overview of the changes from Cybersport.ru author Vyacheslav PilotBaker Ipatov can be viewed here.
