Microsoft presented the future interface and design of Offic. As reported The verge, the update is intended to improve the usability of programs regardless of device, as well as to focus the user’s attention on the content.
The idea is to simplify the current ribbon interface, which is tailored for desktop PCs but inconvenient on tablets or smartphones. This will reduce the cognitive load on the user and allow him to focus on the task at hand.
According to John Friedman, corporate vice president of design and research at Microsoft, some areas require a lot of constant concentration, while others – mobile – are optimal for micro-tasks.
Among other changes, we note the icon, which will show which program is being used. Previously, applications varied in color. The search and command bar will also be located at the top.
The timing of the update is not reported. But, according to Friedman, it will take at least a year or two.
