The litigation between Epic Games and Apple continues to indirectly reveal interesting details through published papers.
For example, confidential documents from Microsoft were posted on the network, which the company provided to the court as an obligation under Epic’s claim against Apple. Important information in them has been prudently edited, but something curious still remains in the public domain.
So, according to the document dated January 2023, the American platform owner is going to reduce the commission for developers from 30% to 12% not only in the Microsoft Store on PC, which was officially confirmed the other day, but also in its digital store on Xbox.
A company spokesman has already commented on The Verge, noting that in the case of consoles, there are no such plans “at the moment”. This may indicate that the plans have been either revised since the beginning of the year, or they are not yet ready to talk about. In any case, the documents confirmed the fact that Microsoft considered the matter at least.
In addition, in another document, but already from August 2023, the timing of the console exclusivity of some games is revealed. ID @ Xbox…
Of greatest interest is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 from GSC Game World. The documentation indicates that the game will be an Xbox console exclusive within three months of release, with a release scheduled for Q4 2023but. Earlier, one of the voice actors let slip the release of the project this year, and GSC confirmed that a version for the PS5 is not being created and is not currently planned.
The same document mentions a six-month exclusive window on the puzzle Tetris Effect: Connected (released in November 2023) and perpetual exclusivity for adventure The gunk (starts in September 2023). How much the information corresponds to reality is still unknown.
