Digital foundry after many requests, I decided to conduct an analysis Mass Effect Legendary Edition on consoles of the outgoing generation – unfortunately, everyone has problems there.
All platforms have a quality mode with 30 FPS and performance with 60 FPS… On PS4 and Xbox One, both work in 1080 rub – Dynamic resolution is not excluded in DF, however, it was not found in all the studied scenes. Other systems:
- PS4 Pro (60 FPS) – 1440r
- PS4 Pro (30 FPS) – from 1800r to 4K
- Xbox One X (60 FPS) – 1440r
- Xbox One X (30 FPS) – 4K.
The bad news is that none of the consoles of the outgoing generation can achieve a stable 60 frames per second. The performance during gameplay is roughly the following:
- PS4 – 30-40 FPS
- Xbox One – 30-40 FPS
- PS4 Pro – 45-60 FPS
- Xbox One X – 35-55 FPS.
Yes, performance on PS4 Pro is better than on Xbox One X – as noted in DF, this is at least unexpected and strange, because PS4 Pro is weaker, and the graphics settings and resolution between the two platforms are at first glance completely identical. What is the reason is still unknown.
In performance mode, the PS4 Pro took the lead, although it rarely manages to achieve a stable 60 FPS. What’s even more interesting, in the cutscenes, both Xbox One are better than competing systems.
But in the “quality” mode on PS4, Xbox One and Xbox One X, everything is much better – experts advise playing the collection with him, since three consoles reach fairly stable 30 frames per second. On the PS4 Pro, however, there are problems – here it is better to switch to “performance”.
First of all, Digital Foundry studied the most difficult scenes of the games – we are talking about Eden Prime and the Citadel from the first Mass Effect, as well as the introduction of the third part. Experts note that performance is better in other episodes.
