Lottery without winners: Daniel Ahmad cited an illustrative example of the huge demand for Nintendo Switch in Japan

Well-known industrial analyst Daniel Ahmad from company Niko Partners shared a story that vividly describes how huge demand is now in Japan for the Nintendo Switch family consoles.

Japanese retailer Yamada Denki opened a lottery to buy 130 Switch consoles and 900 copies of a fitness game Ring fit adventure. The influx of people was simply incredible. More than 200,000 people rushed to take part in the lottery, but the result was disastrous – the server could not withstand the load and fell, and the event was decided to stop. Ahmad said that the lottery did not imply free distribution of the consoles and games presented, but merely offered a chance to win the right to purchase the presented products.

There is currently a serious shortage of Switch consoles in the country of the rising sun due to logistics problems caused by the coronavirus epidemic. People line up in huge lines trying to buy a console.
