Xenomorphs are divided into four main types: cannon fodder, attacking from afar, close, and healthy monsters. The latter pose the greatest threat and can simply sweep away the entire defense, destroying turrets and traps. As the infantry progresses, face-hijackers and other opponents will meet. In total, the developers have included more than 20 types of creatures in the game.
To exterminate the aliens, there are five unique classes to choose from: shooter, demolition, technician, medic and scout. Each of them has its own abilities and advantages. The shooter fluently shoots from a machine gun, throwing grenades at the enemy; the demolitionist uses heavy weapons and smart rounds, self-guided to the target; the technician sets up turrets and electrical traps; the medic heals and gives damage amplification, and the scout uses the radar and organizes the replenishment of cartridges and life.
It is unknown why, but the last class is initially blocked and opens only after completing the game. He does not pull on endgame content and does not give any advantage over other characters.
In addition to class abilities, squad members have different types of weapons. The arsenal includes the best representatives of alien destruction. Players have access to: pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, machine guns, flamethrowers and much more. They differ in rate of fire, range and other characteristics. Weapons can be equipped with body kits and pumped. From a rifle for medium range, players are free to blind a long-range rifle with a sniper scope, a machine gun can increase the accuracy of fire, and a flamethrower can reload speed.
The main pros of Aliens: Fireteam Elite are definitely worth recording action. Xenomorph fights are presented at their best. Despite the fact that enemies are bullet sponges as standard in the genre, they are a lot of fun to shoot. Thanks for this is a high-quality impact that illuminates the enemy, and a large area of destruction (hitboxes). Aliens who have been shot in the head screech amusingly, and fried to a crispy crust fall in their dying convulsions.
Unfortunately, there were some drawbacks. The lack of active reloading from Gears of War does not spoil the impression of shooting, but the inability to reload while jumping is very annoying. Sometimes you have to run away from the crowd of monsters, hiding in the far corner to replenish the cartridges. This is far from always possible, and at high difficulty the enemies literally tear the hero apart while the character stands motionless and frantically pulls out the clip.
From the aforementioned action series Microsoft the game being monitored draws on the cover system. At the beginning of the walkthrough, it raises questions, since the AI of the aliens is set to a constant attack. Xenomorphs will not hide behind a wall, and only a few of them will spit. However, closer to the middle of the campaign, new enemies appear in the form of androids, which cannot be destroyed on a swoop. Robots who rebelled against humanity use sniper guns, set up turrets and painfully fry with a flamethrower, in general, use the capabilities of classes against the players themselves.
Questions are also raised by the lack of a “crouch” button, which is necessary when shooting three of us in narrow corridors, and a useless melee strike. Xenomorphs leave behind a pool of acid, so they must be destroyed from a distance, and the elbow strike is too slow and short. Throughout the game, there will not be a single situation where, after using a melee strike, the player does not receive damage.
The interest of the game is added by its second undoubted plus – the musical accompaniment, created in the best traditions of creations James Horner, for which the composer was nominated for “Oscar“. Melodies sound bright and rich, emphasizing what is happening on the screen. Music makes you rush into battle or look around in search of hidden aliens, when cheerful motives are replaced by anxious intonation. Alas, the sounds of shooting are not so good, although they allow you to distinguish the rumble of a machine gun from the chirping of a machine gun.
The development system turned out to be quite curious. The game offers users three difficulties to choose from, marking the recommended battle rating for each one. The figure is made up of the player’s overall level, class status, weapon capabilities and perks. The first is accumulated throughout the entire passage, and the second – for the game with a certain class. The most interesting thing is that some of the open perks can be transferred to other classes, like weapons.
For example, a scout is able to use not only a gun, but also an assault rifle, a medic can share a pumped-up pistol with a shooter, and so on. Despite the fact that the arsenal includes over 30 types of weapons, they fall under certain class boundaries. The same goes for perks that other squad members can use. For this, the developers have come up with a special grid with cells. It is necessary to insert strips and cubes into it in the manner of “Tetris”, filling the slots and increasing the character’s rating.
Unlike competing games, Aliens: Fireteam Elite allows the shooter to quickly pick up a fallen comrade, and the medic to carry more ammo. The flexibility of pumping will help players to customize the hero for themselves. This decision is emphasized by the character editor, in which you can choose gender, appearance and even voice for the hero or heroine. The latter is more a minus than a plus, since the speech of the created character is strongly out of the general picture – it sounds quiet and dull, and turns on only at the moment of detecting a hidden enemy (that is, at a critical moment).
