Popular blogger and founder of the Linus Media Group IT channel Linus sebastian apologized publicly for spreading misinformation about SSDs for the PlayStation 5 – he apologized to the founder of Epic Games Tim Sweeney and your viewers.
The drama began after Sweeney allegedly called the PS5 drive “the best on the market”, and Sebastian found it faster for PC. This fragment from the blogger’s video became popular on the network and was actively used by users at every opportunity.
However, as Sebastian later realized, the words of the head of Epic Games were distorted. In fact, he said the SSD for the PS5 is “best in class.” The blogger agreed with this.
According to Sebastian, in such topics – which are used to abuse between fanboys of consoles and PCs – the truth is often perverted in one direction or another. As an experienced user of social networks, he did not do “homework” and was disgraced.
Much more unpleasant was the fact that many viewers used the blogger’s misinformation to mock Sweeney on Twitter, although in fact he was right. Sebastian asked such enthusiasts to apologize to the head of the studio.
In short, the “bare” speed of reading and writing data to an SSD is not as important as the environment created around it. And here on the PC there are especially many problems of a huge number of “bottlenecks” – both on the software and hardware sides.
Sony He’s just trying to solve all these problems, creating a console from scratch taking into account all the restrictions. According to Sebastian, no matter how fast the media on Windows is, it will not be able to significantly affect gaming performance.
PlayStation 5 developers fundamentally change the principles of development, for example, allowing you to instantly download objects directly from the media – ignoring the “intermediary” in the form of RAM.
SSD, which is ten times faster than HDD, due to a series of limitations of iron and software in reality, can give an acceleration of about two times
In addition, Sony uses a custom controller to unload objects, which gives developers control over the boot process and, which is also important, relieves the processor, allowing it to focus on other important tasks.
In addition, the blogger notes that games created taking into account the features of the PlayStation 5 will weigh less, because developers will no longer duplicate many objects due to HDD restrictions. The same goes for the Xbox Series X.
Caution guys, because after all the whining that consoles hinder industry, it is PC that can become the main lagging behind.
However, as Tim Sweeney notes and Sebastian hopes, new consoles can push computer manufacturers to accelerate the creation of a much faster architecture on PCs that will use all the features of high-speed drives.
The blogger also notes that all the features of the PlayStation 5 hardware, including the high-speed SSD, we will see only in the platform exclusives.
