Life after the coronavirus pandemic: what awaits us gamers

Jared Leto went for 12 days to meditate in the desert and returned to a completely different world. We tried to collect all possible theories and assumptions and tell us what awaits us after the end of quarantine.

Apparently, the ideas of globalism are ending before our eyes in agony, and the world is again divided into isolated economic macrozones. Yes, China is gradually recovering, but factories in India are now closing, which again calls into question the supply of components. As a result, transnational corporations and ordinary people will have to adapt to new realities.

Physical media, which for a very long time did not want to concede to a figure, will become less in demand or will almost completely leave the real space, preserved in the form of limited collectible publications. Disc collectors will join vinyl lovers. Probably, there will be special revisions of the next-generation consoles without a drive, which will bring huge losses to gaming retail.

Gametop and small specialized gaming stores will close. Platform owners will have to open multi-brand stores as part of large retailers and increase their presence in large networks of household appliances. Although, perhaps, everything will finally go online with quick home delivery.

However, there is a serious problem in the form of the bandwidth of Internet networks. The lion’s share of traffic falls on streaming services, however, the infrastructure of Europe and the USA was not ready for such an influx of users. Therefore, the issue will have to be solved – by modernizing the Network or finally burying the principle of network neutrality.

Game streaming, like Playstation now and GeForce Now, most likely will die, since the networks simply will not cope with the load, the ping will become stronger, and the image will decay into pixels to be unplayable.

It is likely that the borders of the European Union will be closed for the next two years, so after the specialized stores game exhibitions will cease to exist. No E3, Gamescom, Igromira and Tgs will not be. Instead, all publishers will release demos for all significant releases and conduct online broadcasts, such as Nintendo Direct and Treehouse.

Big push will get soon VRindustry with VR concerts, travel and educational projects.

The production of telephones, set-top boxes and other consumer goods will shift from China to macrozone centers. Maybe, Xbox Series X and PS5 in a couple of years it will be produced for the United States in Mexico, and for the East European market in Russia. Now LG and Samsung collect equipment in Kaluga. It also means that regional prices may appear for console projects, as was the case with PC-games in the late 90s.

The most powerful global crisis that is approaching this fall will lead to a recession and rising unemployment around the world, so the new generation of consoles will be one of the weakest in terms of sales. Most developers will move from multi-million blockbusters to more modest projects designed for replayability. The number of experimental games, like Death strandingwill decrease.

Most global international projects, such as Oneweb’s World Wide Web, flight to Mars, environmental development, and flight to the moon will be closed or curtailed. Countries will solve their problems on their own.

Cinemas after gaming stores will begin to close around the world. Most of the prime will be converted to digital. Amid falling interest in cinemas, film companies will have to reevaluate bloated budgets. In new project conditions, like “Star wars”Or film adaptations Marvel, will be less, but the number of TV shows will increase.

SJW, feminism, multiculturalism and other leftist movements in world industry will come to naught. They will be replaced by isolation, total control and state regulation. Most games, films, and entertainment products will be reworked or censored, adapting to each macrozone.

If in the summer of 2019 a special search engine from Google for China was impossible, then in 2023 – this is a completely normal decision. Many things that seemed impossible by the norms of society will become an objective reality. It is likely that for the first time in many years of history several large states will declare bankruptcy. And their debts can be bought by transnational corporations, which will lead us to the world of gloomy cyberpunk.
