There is a kind of film adaptations of the franchises, which, except as a filler, cannot be characterized. Taking heroes from the original material, the creators of such films and series are so afraid of violating the canon in any minimal way that the story ends up being completely unmemorable and even meaningless. These adaptations include feature films based on “Naruto“, or here, for example, Resident evil in her fourth attempt to do anything good with the famous universe on the animation field.
Unlike feature films with Cute Jovovich for the same franchise, the animated series has more to do with a video game source. There are familiar characters with their past from the classic games. In all animated film adaptations, the main character is the notorious Leon Kennedy. Other popular heroes, as well as completely empty newbies, join him all the time.
In general, all “three-dimensional” “Resident evil“can be described in one set of clichés that are repeated from project to project: this is the brave and unkillable Leon, the obligatory femme fatale, the character who injects himself with a virus and becomes a huge zombie, the USA is at odds with someone, another fictional banana republic, someone a swindler in the government … The plot itself, as a rule, is full of holes and nonsense.Fans will not get any destruction of the canon or simply the emergence of some new information about their favorite heroes and the world of Resident Evil – only stereotypes.
The fourth “film adaptation” naturally also did not foreshadow any modifications in the formula, except for a couple of changes in the format: now it is not a full-length film, but a series, divided into four episodes and released into Netflix… True, despite such a breakdown, the duration of the timing remained approximately the same as before.
What the authors really did not blunder was in the graphics. Of course, in every film they tried to raise the bar, but then they surpassed themselves. The level of detail is just excellent, although the animation itself fails in places and sometimes seems hacky. But even so Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness stands out from many other animated pictures in the library Netflix…
Unfortunately, this is the only positive upgrade, while everything else works according to the old formula. Once again, our main annihilator of the living and non-living Leon Kennedy finds himself in the center of the conflict, where the US President is assassinated with biological weapons right in the White House. At the same time, Claire Redfield, working for the human rights organization TerraSave, during a charity mission in Penamstan, stumbles upon a creepy drawing of a child, which naturally reminds her of a zombie. In accompanying roles, this time the honored hero of Penamstan Jason and the mysterious Shen Mei.
Then everything develops approximately as you would expect. Absolutely not surprising in terms of the scenario, the creators of the series tried to diversify the scenery a little, although here it was not without the laboratory, which is obligatory for the series. By the way, this time there is not even much action, and it is not very inventive. If before the heroes jumped and fired like Dante from Devil May Cry, now this is not the case either.
Nevertheless, the climax itself is still a little, but shakes the foundations of the series. In the end, our heroes finally disagree and move away, which, of course, Chris Redfield is crying somewhere far away in a bar. Well, again, for some reason, we are left with a cliffhanger who has been trying to shoot from the first film.
Afraid to somehow seriously touch the established formula, the creators of Infinite Darkness made an absolutely sterile continuation of the first animated films, which is recommended to be watched only by the biggest fans of the universe in order to look again at the faces of their favorite characters.
