Legendary actor Max von Sydow, star of the films “Judge Dredd” and “Minority Report”, died at the age of 90

The legend of Swedish cinema Max von Sydow died at the age of 90. The actor died at home on March 8 in France, where he lived with his family for the past few years.. The death of the artist was confirmed by his wife, Catherine von Sydow.

“With endless sadness and unbearable pain in the heart, we report that Max von Syudov passed away on March 8, 2023.”

Max von Sjudov was born in Sweden in 1929, having come to the attention of the international community for the first time thanks to eleven collaborations with a compatriot director Ingmar Bergmanincluding the famous painting “Seventh Seal“1957, in which the actor portrayed a knight playing chess with Death.

Syudov had an extremely fruitful career, starring both in European arthouse cinema and in popular Hollywood blockbusters. Among his famous paintings – “Exorcist“(1973),”Flash gordon“(1980),”Never say never“(1983),”Awakening“(1990),”Judge Dredd“(1995),”Special opinion“(2002),”Shutter Island“(2009) and many others. Most recently he played the mysterious Laura San Tekka in”Star Wars: The Force Awakens“and the mystical Three-eyed Raven on HBO”Game of ThronesThe actor also participated in the voice acting The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimgiving his voice to the elderly north mage Esburne.

For his entire acting life, Syudov received two Oscar nominations – the first time in 1987 for the film Pelle the Conqueror and the second in 2011 for the film Terribly Loud and Extremely Close. His last work was the Belgian-French drama “Kursk“2018, where the actor played with Lei Seydoux.
