Joss Whedon As He Is: The Incredibles Review from the Creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and HBO

Of course you can hate Joss Whedonif you are a big fan of creativity Zach Snyder and worried about “Justice League”, But this particular American director has done much more for modern culture than many eminent producers. His serial bestsellers “Buffy“,”Svyatlyako”And“Dollhouse”Revived the modern television format, giving the world not only a galaxy of young actresses, but also interesting and really strong female characters. It is not surprising that a fresh project “Incredible“Not only uses a well-established formula with leading heroines, but also mixes into the script the effect of sudden revelations, already used in the film”Shed in a woods”. And although the scandal forced Whedon to leave the show in the middle, prompting HBO to split the season in two in order to find a new showrunner (he became Philip Goslett), the first six episodes demonstrate all the experience and unexpected decisions of the master.

Events “Incredible”Takes place at the end of the Victorian era. Suddenly, the inhabitants of London received a wonderful gift that endowed them with incredible abilities – from superpower to the ability to control the elements and electricity. Most of the gifted turned out to be women from simple classes, but men and even aristocrats rarely come across. In the center of the plot, Amalia Tru is the leader of a shelter for special people, who, together with the genius scientist Penance Adair, is trying to find a source of unique power and resist dark forces trying to use the gifted for their dark purposes. However, everything is not so simple, since recent allies can turn out to be formidable opponents, and somewhere in the shadows real evil looms. In itself, the rather poignant plot makes a sudden turn on the sixth episode, leaving viewers in anticipation of the second half of the season.

Whedon repeats a lot, but watching “The Incredibles” is really interesting, and not only due to the motley cast, but also due to numerous script findings. Starting from a self-propelled carriage and an incredible fight on the lake, and ending with the most bizarre inventions of the Penance.

Acting duet from Laura Donnelly, perhaps, you will remember from the TV series “Outlander”, And Anne Skelly sparkles with emotions. Ben Chaplin as detective Frank Mundy lends a measured pragmatism to the story. The rest of the characters evoke a different spectrum of emotions, making them really wait for the next episodes to appear.

Of course, “The Incredibles” can be accused of self-repetition, a large number of intricate storylines and some confusion of presentation, but all this pays off with a really interesting plot, vivid characters and a perfectly conveyed atmosphere of the Victorian era. Given the rather scarce beginning of the year for really strong projects, I sincerely recommend that you familiarize yourself with the first part of this little masterpiece. Moreover, the ratings of the show in the West turned out to be less impressive, and it is possible that HBO will abandon the second season. However, much will depend on how gifted Philip Goslett is, on whose shoulders the responsibility for the remaining 6 episodes has fallen. There is a chance that she will bring Whedon’s project to mind and we will get an equally intense and dramatic story.
