One of the founders of id Software John Carmack invited manufacturers of consoles and video cards to sell their products through auctions. In his opinion, this will allow getting rid of dealers (scalpers) who profit from the players.
The global shortage that has formed amid the coronavirus pandemic has led products such as consoles PS5, Xbox Series X / S and video cards Nvidia RTX, became the main targets of scalpers. They use special bots to quickly redeem emerging batches of devices.
Some analysts estimate that since the launch of the new consoles last November, scalpers have raised about $ 58 million in the US alone by reselling devices at huge markups on eBay and StockX.
Carmack believes Sony, Microsoft and Nvidia should get rid of the middleman and auction their products. At the same time, companies should use “transparent system of auctions directly from manufacturers”… According to the DOOM programmer, this strategy will almost certainly cause dissatisfaction with some of the audience, but in the long run, it will ultimately benefit consumers.
may be moving past that for a lot of products. There would be much indignation at reported prices out of the gate, but removing intermediaries should net out better for consumers in the end.

Against the background of the aggravated situation with dealers, officials in the UK even discuss introduction of a bill that would make this kind of activity illegal.
