Hollywood Veteran Joel Schumacher died at the age of 80. According to The hollywood reporter, the cause of death was cancer, which the director fought over the past year.
As a New Yorker, Schumacher began his career as a costume designer in the 1970s, after which he began writing scripts and made his debut in the directorial field with the tape “Incredibly Withered Woman” in 1981. Further in his career, there were enough successful films, like the cult thriller “I’m over it!“with Michael Douglas,”Telephone booth“,”Time to kill“,”Fatal number 23“and”Phantom of the Opera“and controversial paintings, among which one of the most disastrous was the film”Batman and robin“1997 year.
The film with George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead roles received devastating criticism and was recognized as one of the worst film comics in history, and Schumacher himself admitted that he made a mistake with this project after listening to the marketing managers of the studio who wanted to direct the film to a children’s audience.
One way or another, in the 90s, Schumacher was considered one of the most influential directors in Hollywood, gaining a reputation as a director over the years of work in the industry, paving the way for many young stars, including Colin Farrell, Kiefer Sutherland and Matthew McConaughey. The last work of Schumacher was the series “House of cards“for which he shot two episodes in 2013.
