We are talking about an episode when Jake Sully learns to fly with the help of a local creature from the planet Pandora. According to representatives of the studio, the episode did not supplement anything in the main plot, and therefore it was proposed to cut it.
But according to Cameron, there are many rules in the world regarding the elements of a film that should serve one general purpose. But this is not always the case, and sometimes the authors add something to the pictures that they would like to see for themselves – and share this experience with the audience. Like, for example, the feeling of flying from the above episode.
When Cameron was pointed out that there was no connection between the main plot and the scene, Cameron replied that “he doesn’t care” because he thought the episode was appropriate in the film. And usually, if he likes something, then it also responds to the audience – not everything must only work for the plot.
