Specialists from Digital foundry tested new role-playing game with open world Cyberpunk 2077 in backward compatibility mode on consoles Xbox series x, Series S and Playstation 5 and found that the Xbox version has several advantages over the Sony console version.
First, what we already wrote about earlier: version Cyberpunk 2077 for Series X offers gamers the ability to choose between performance mode (FPS priority) and picture quality (graphics priority over FPS) – this choice is not available on PS5. On a Sony console, the game runs at 60 FPS by default, so you won’t be able to sacrifice frame rate to get a higher resolution picture.
The technical analysis notes that when running in quality mode, the frame rate counter for the Xbox version is limited to 30 FPS, but resolution increases “much”… Surprisingly, both new Xbox consoles also offer higher NPC density and ambient occlusion compared to PS5.
“Arguably, the best gaming experience right now is offered by the Series X version in quality mode, which limits frame rates to 30 FPS but significantly increases the resolution rate. – he is dynamic and floats in the area 1512p in the city, but can reach the value 1728p in simpler scenes“DF specialist Richard Ledbetter explained.
“Obviously, this results in increased latency and lower visual response, but this dramatic increase in the number of pixels has a positive impact on picture quality,” he added.
Cyberpunk 2077 actively uses the method of temporary supersampling, that is, when using it, the information in the current frame (frame) is also taken from previous frames.
“The higher the resolution of the previous frames, the higher the complex score in the current one. The end result is a much prettier, less grainy and washed-out picture in the game. There are other improvements like ambient occlusion that are not present in the PS5 build. nor in performance mode on Xbox. “
However, as Ledbetter notes, In performance mode (locked 1080p and unlocked frame rates up to 60 FPS), the Xbox Series X has a smoother frame rate than the PS5, but for good reason:
“In comparable tests, there are locations in which the PS5 FPS rate does not drop at all, and the Series X drops slightly. Anyway, the higher NPC density and the number of vehicles makes it clear that the Series X version of the game works with more high settings is not like comparing the same versions. “
In addition to all of the above, less productive Xbox series s The $ 999 price tag offers many of the improvements with the Xbox Series X, albeit at a much lower resolution.
“Basically, the Series S is a tweaked version of the Series X quality mode. The resolution is clearly much lower – the game can run below 1080p. However, the upper limit of the resolution also exceeds the best PS5 values, reaching 1296p,” added Ledbetter.
“What’s more, the version for Microsoft’s junior console offers most, if not all of the benefits of quality mode. This means Series S consoles will be able to see more vehicles and a higher density of NPCs in addition to features like background shading.”
Digital Foundry has concluded that gamers will be able to opt for higher frame rates on the PS5, or significantly improved picture quality on the Xbox Series X.
“If you are happy with 30 FPS, the premium Xbox console, along with additional graphics and higher NPC / vehicle density, offers better picture quality with some margin.”
In an earlier analysis, DF named Cyberpunk 2077 performance on base PS4 consoles is “unacceptable”. Soon after it released new patch with bug fixes. Many players noted that in the case of the version for PS4 renewal 1.04 really transformed the project – the average resolution has become higher, and the frame rate is now kept at a slightly higher mark…
Release Cyberpunk 2077 took place December 10 on all current platforms except Nintendo Switch. With our review Cyberpunk 2077 can be found here…
