In the cult racing game Need for Speed: Underground, ray tracing effects have been added

Original Need for Speed: Underground became a truly iconic race and even now, 17 years after the release, is still alive thanks to a group of loyal fans. In 2017, the AMTxDRxRL modder released a Underground global modification for Underground that refreshed the graphics of a rather old game by adding high-resolution textures, redesigned lighting, and new effects.

Another enthusiast nicknamed Stre1itzia recently tried to improve this modification. To do this, he transferred it to a new version Reshade and added ray tracing using a shader from Pascal gilcher. This is not a full-fledged raytracing, since all calculations take place only in the visible space of the screen, but the picture with it really gets better.

As a result, Need for Speed: Underground began to look much more elegant, but after all the improvements, the game performance decreased three times.
