During the year, Cybersport.ru editors published hundreds of materials, worked at LAN tournaments and other major events to provide readers with interesting and exclusive content. Usually, only the final version of an article, interview, or note reaches users, and various funny and curious moments remain “behind the keyboard”. To remedy this situation, the authors of our website shared stories in which they talked about curious cases, interesting facts and other aspects related to the work of an e-sports and game journalist.

“I have been working in e-sports for almost three years: I happened to catch a raving one with joy Ssapartan in China, chat with all the top-level doters in Katowice and run around cold Peter all day for interviews with participants EPICENTER 2017 by CS: GO.
But the most interesting business trip was this year – I happened to go to Berlin for a major on Counter-Strike. A childhood dream came true! Emotions overwhelmed from the first day, when during a check-in at the hotel I saw a wilted suNny, as if he already knew then that his transition to ENCE would result in collapse.
I happened to catch the upset Yevgeny Zolotarev right after the defeat of NAVI in the quarterfinal, to meet the fans Jamewho came to support Avangar even from Switzerland, and even go to the tournament backstage (at such moments you understand how much work it is to broadcast the championship).
I haven’t seen such a lively and colorful audience anywhere: there were phlegmatic Finns, now and then they choked on chants about ENCE, there were rabid AVANGAR fans and, of course, a support group Astralisthat overshadowed everyone. I watched the decisive rounds of the finals in their company: from the abundance of red shades it was possible to go blind, and from endless chants – to go deaf. Well, when Xyp9x made the last frag, a real ecstasy began, which words cannot convey. Just watch the recording of the English-language broadcast and you will understand everything yourself. ”

“I don’t go to tournaments for a long time, because I prefer to work from home, so I’m unlikely to be able to boast of any particularly funny moments. Perhaps the most ridiculous episodes this year are related to the spouse’s reaction to what I have to do during the shift … It looks something like this:
– Yes, I went to Fortnite because I need to check something for the news.
– Of course, I played WC3: Reforged for half a day just to write a review!
“No, I don’t stare at these cosplayers.” It is generally Sneaky. He is a guy. Hey, you just do not get me wrong …
– You won’t believe it, but I also need to watch The Witcher for work …
Of course, the spouse is familiar with eSports, knows about Sneaky’s quirks and our users’ love for cosplay. Nevertheless, every such “episode” she does not miss the opportunity to troll me from the heart. I love her =) Working from home can be very fun, yes. ”

“One of the unobvious problems of the gaming industry is the ubiquity of the Internet. It’s not that the constant online directly harms – rather dampens. Previously, developers knew that after printing cartridges or discs, something was unlikely to be fixed. Therefore, I had to do everything for sure.
Today, the first day patches have become normal practice, and even they can’t cope with all the problems. Remember the news about the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2: most of them are about bugs and crashes, as well as updates, after which the number of bugs and crashes only increases.
So why am I. The review versions that are sent to the press before release are an even more raw product. They do not have not only the “first day” patch, but also several earlier ones. Take Transport Fever 2, for example. In one of her missions, I got stuck for a couple of hours due to the fact that my ship refused to transport whiskey. It seems that the distillery is working to its fullest, and the Scottish hard workers almost thirst on the wall for thirst, but Steamboat Willie announced the Prohibition.
At this point, google or forums to go through, but the trouble is – Transport Fever 2 has not yet come out, and the collective mind of the Internet has not yet been available. Fortunately, at that moment when I was going to scribble a telegram to the developers, the game crashed with a critical error. It turned out that she understood that she needed to be updated.
Among the advantages of such an aggressive update – the error has disappeared, among the minuses – saving too. In different proportions, the story was repeated several more times. That “free game”, which I initially gave a paragraph about free-to-play in the review, turned into a “free game”. That interface jumped from one side to the other, forcing me to look for a trick for a long time in a familiar, but for some reason alien menu.
I am glad that the developers are actively working on their product until the very end. The closer the release was selected, the less departures became. It was very funny to watch how the game was being transformed almost live. Anyway, playing during working hours and sharing your impressions is a fun activity, I recommend it to everyone.
What’s more interesting is how Danil scared me by appearing in the chat at five in the morning, and how I laughed at e-sports socks for ten minutes and couldn’t write anything. ”

“At the beginning of the year, I visited WESG 2018, where for the first time I came across the idea that CS: GO players behave much more professionally when interacting with the press than doters. Since then I have been to several other major tournaments, and this experience has only strengthened my confidence. Now I want to share with you a couple of short examples that will show how the representatives of the two flagship games from Valve have different attitudes towards the “media”.
The first days in China I spent arranging an interview with various Dota 2 mixes. One of them was the Australian team, which then played ana – of course, I wanted to talk with the current TI champion!
Once in the gaming room, I went to the line-up manager only to receive a refusal with the wording: “No, let’s try tomorrow.” On the second day in the morning, she changed to a softer one: “Come in a couple of hours,” but then the manager’s mood went downgrade – he again refused and offered to postpone the interview for another day. The next day, he gave me his phone and suggested – absolutely absolutely – to talk in a day. The next day, he ignored me, and after he set a new date. But when I once again came to chat with ana, it turned out that the manager and the team decided to go to the zoo, and from there go on a plane. I never had an interview with an Australian. ”
“Probably, this situation has some kind of systemic prerequisites, and therefore blaming the Dotters for something will be wrong – they are so used to behaving. It was all the more surprising for me to see how the same process occurs in MIBR – for a moment, one of the most famous teams on the professional CS: GO scene.
This roster made it to the tournament the day before we left, and from experience with Team Australia, I was ready to accept what to speak with Fallen I simply will not have time. I went to the manager and made a request, hearing in response: “The guys are training now, let’s talk in 40 minutes?”. I got used to such veiled refusals, and therefore I decided to postpone the solution to this problem until later and went for an interview with Olsior. And now imagine how amazed I was when in the middle of my conversation with the caster, the face of the MIBR manager appeared behind him.
He gestured that I did not need to interrupt the interview, and patiently waited until Olsior and I finished talking, and then … apologized! For the fact that he needed to postpone my meeting with FalleN for another half hour, as the players got hungry and left for lunch. But after 25 minutes, the captain of the MIBR came to me and patiently answered all the questions.
Of course, not all teams in Dota 2 avoid communication with the press, and not all representatives of the CS: GO scene are ready to look for you at the hotel for an interview. But at the last EPICENTER 2019 I came across another indicative episode: after the departure, all the clubs left the stage and regularly gave us a comment about the mistakes made. In Dota 2, after the defeat, only the squad so far agreed to speak with me Og. I hope that by the end of 2023 I will be able to write that the situation has begun to improve! ”

“For inexperience in writing monumental articles, the first personal note on the site for me was the story of the channel Sasha Gray on Twitch. At that time, I worked at Cybersport.ru for exactly two weeks, so I perceived any tasks as the peak I was supposed to conquer. Glavred expected from me the usual news, they say, a pornstar, actress and just a beautiful woman opened an account on a streaming platform. I looked at the records on her channel, studied the content and realized that in the very presence of her profile on Twitch there was no history; noteworthy is the fact that with a rather specific background Sasha behaves like a very cute gamer. Video clips helped convey the mood of a pornstar channel. Many liked the note, but for some time I was complex that the text about Sasha Gray is highlighted in my profile.
The story of inspecting interesting channels on Twitch continued when enthusiasts began broadcasting the British Parliament. It was immediately decided that note about it be. It only remained to make a selection of interesting moments and convey the mood of the channel. Whatever important issues are resolved at the meeting, it’s impossible not to laugh with calls to order from former speaker John Birkow. After writing this news, my stone literally fell off my soul, I was even able to show it to my mother. By the way, I realized that I like the format of notes, when you can watch and read, – the main thing is that emotion is transmitted through the page. ”

“The CS: GO Major in Berlin was remembered not only by the cool atmosphere in the Mercedes-Benz arena and the unmistakable Astralis game, but also by a rather curious story. I had never been stuck in an elevator before … until that business trip.
It was a month before I got a job at Cybersport.ru. After the finale, my colleagues from other publications went for a walk around the city. At 2 a.m., having discussed all existential issues, we returned to the hotel. I lived on the sixth floor – above all. The trip was a little long – every time someone went out, he passed through a series of farewell fraternal hugs. And so I remained the last. I already saw a soft bed and a shower, but the flight of imagination was interrupted by the shutter of the elevator slamming shut with a roar.
The elevator did not want to go or open. After five minutes of randomly pressing all the buttons, I decided to call support. I was answered by a man with an oriental accent. He did not know English. Absolutely. To all my attempts with different intonation and loudness to explain what happened, he answered with some quick and inconsistent tongue twister in German. Having issued the next incomprehensible remark, he disconnected. Pressing the communication button with the dispatcher again did not lead to anything – the female robot strictly started reporting me in German, making it clear that they no longer wanted to talk to me. I did not argue, deciding that while I still had a bottle of local alcohol – everything was not so bad. But soon she was gone. Left completely alone, I decided to take action. Knocking and pleading did not bring results, then I switched to radical methods. Since the elevator was not stuck between the floors, but exactly on the fifth floor, the idea of getting out myself seemed extremely reasonable to me. Having pushed aside the shutters, I quickly jumped out before they slammed shut again. Having successfully got out, I decided to run away to the reception and warn about the problem with the elevator.
– You know, your elevator has broken.
– Oh, yes, yes, a man was stuck there, we are waiting for technicians.
– I’m stuck …
– Oh, the elevator is working ?!
– Not.
– (A close look at me and the bottle) I see. Goodnight.
At 7 in the morning, in a hurry to the transfer, which was already waiting at the hotel, I decided to recall the need for physical exertion and took the stairs. ”

“Journalists do not always go to tournaments solely for work – especially when they take a vacation in order to watch EPICENTER CS: GO matches not from behind the curtains, but from the audience along with other fans. That is exactly what I did at the end of December: I went to Moscow by train, despite the fact that only yesterday I was in bed with temperatures below 39. In the end, not every day major championships take place in Russia.
I went to the tournament together with a friend who knew about e-sports exclusively from my stories and even did not really play in CS: GO. Before the first day of the playoffs, Vlad was charged and ready to root “for the Russians” – that is, for forZe. However, on the spot I had to explain to him what was going on on the screen, who was winning and where were those “ours”. The benefit of CS: GO is that the game is not complicated if you don’t go into details, so after the first card Vlad has already begun to understand the game and get upset about forZe’s defeats.
However, the most vivid emotions were yet to come. Before the NAVI match, I tried on my fingers to explain to Vlad how popular this team was, but the fans did it much better than me. When the players began to go on stage, the entire audience stood up and began to applaud. My friend even decided to record a story – at my prompt, he waited for the release s1mple to the real roar of the fans. But contrary to the whole audience, we decided to cheer for Evil geniuses, and here in Vlad a fan woke up who was worried about every given round.
Then we were almost the only ones who left Crocus in high spirits. Unfortunately, we missed the EG autograph session and did not look at the team in the final, but there were plenty of emotions. After the first day, Vlad admitted that he began to understand e-sports more and was imbued with respect for players who work no less than ordinary athletes. He even almost remembered the nicknames of all the Evil Geniuses members. It seems that the mission to appeal to new eSports fans has been completed. ”
